Spinning a sweater

So I decided about three months ago to embark on a task I had not yet done; spinning enough yarn and then knitting a sweater from it. The fiber I have used is some Bluefaced Leicester or BFL that was dyed with the purpose of spinning a sweater's worth of yarn. The store was Crazy Monkey Creations, The sweater kit came with six colors of fiber; green, light blue, dark blue, raspberry, lilac, and grey. Seen here each spun as a medium thick ply clockwise with a slight over twist.

Here you can see the single-ply in more detail:

After I got each of the colors spun I assigned a number to each and began to create a two-ply with alternate shifting colors. As an example, I began with colors 1 and 4. After I had made 25 draws of those I cut color 1 and switched to 6, after 25 more draws I cut 4 and so on. The resulting fiber had a nice softness and excellent balance. I soaked each hank for about 30-60 minutes in cold water and a little wool wash. Here is the finished yarn:

The result was a nice Bulky weight yarn that gave me 12 stitches and 20 rows to 4 inches with US 11 knitting needles.

A few days ago I began the knitting, I chose a nice vanilla top-down raglan sweater. I have just put the body on hold and am knitting the sleeves using magic loop. I should hopefully have just enough yarn, If I fall short I plan to use a commercial yarn for the cuffs, collar, front edges, and hem.

This last image is the best color representation by far. As I make further progress I'll put a new blog post up!
